When
packing for storage, use heavy duty boxes or waterproof tubs with lids, and
stack them on the bottom with lighter boxes on top. Boxes of uniform size and
shape ensure more uniform stacks.
For
easy access after storing, label and number all your boxes and containers and
keep a list of the contents of each numbered container. Stack containers with
numbers visible. Allow a few inches between the stacks of items and the walls
to allow access and good air circulation.
Air
moisture can condense on inside surfaces as the weather outside gets colder.
This condensation moisture will drip from surfaces above, so we suggest you
cover your items with plastic sheeting or tarps for additional moisture
control.
Keep
important items off of the floor. Concrete floors are permeable, and water
vapor will pass through it. For additional protection for your valuables, place
shipping pallets, plastic sheeting, tarps, etc. on the floor under your items.
Store
boxes of important or sensitive items stacked on dressers, hutches, or
bookshelves. Place small items in drawers when available.
Wrap
sofas and mattresses with protective plastic, and place off the floor with the
end up, if possible, on sturdy furniture or boxes. If placed on the floor to ensure there is protective sheeting under them.
Ensure
that refrigerators and freezers are clean and dry when stored. Always block the
doors open for air circulation and to avoid accidental suffocation. Small items
may be stored inside to save unit space.
Rodent
Report: Lessee shall immediately report to the Site Supervisor any evidence or
sitings of rodents (mice, packrats, etc.). It is helpful to never store food
items that will attract rodents or insects into your unit. Important items and
documents should be stored within rodent-free containers as an added
protection. It also makes sense to ensure your unit door is securely closed,
with the rope handle placed inside the unit to reduce rodent access under the
door.
